Objective

  • Promote Solar Energy Encourage the adoption of solar energy through rooftop installations to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.
  • Reduce Electricity Bills Help households and businesses reduce their electricity bills by generating their own solar power.

Eligibility

  • Residential, Commercial, and Institutional The scheme is open to various categories of users, including residential buildings, commercial establishments, and institutional premises.
  • Government Buildings It also targets government buildings and other public institutions.

Incentives

  • Net Metering Consumers can benefit from net metering, which allows them to receive credit for the excess solar power they generate and feed back into the grid.
  • Tax Benefits Users may also avail themselves of tax benefits and other financial incentives as per applicable government regulations.

Installation Process

  • Approved Vendors The installation must be done by vendors approved under the scheme. A list of approved vendors is typically provided by the respective state nodal agencies or the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
  • Grid Connectivity The solar rooftop systems are designed to be connected to the electricity grid, allowing users to benefit from net metering (i.e., excess electricity generated can be fed back into the grid).

Implementation and Monitoring

  • State Nodal Agencies The scheme is implemented through state nodal agencies, which oversee the installation, subsidy disbursement, and monitoring of solar rooftop projects.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Regular monitoring and evaluation are conducted to ensure the effective implementation of the scheme and to address any issues.

Subsidy and Financial Support

  • Subsidy Structure Provides financial incentives in the form of subsidies to reduce the cost of installing solar rooftop systems. The subsidy amount can vary based on the size of the system and the type of consumer.
  • Central and State Support Both central and state governments may offer financial support, with specific details and subsidy rates varying by region.
